How to Find Walker County Warrants

If you intend to search for Walker County warrants as part of an overall background check on a person that matters to you (a new employee, your children's nanny, your neighbor, etc.) you should read this article. It explains how to inquire about a person's criminal history in Walker County and in the entire State of Georgia.

Running a Walker County warrant search

Any information on Walker County warrants can be found on the sheriff office (105 South Duke Street, LaFayette, GA 30728, ph: 706-638-1909, Warrants Ext. 1227). You will need to pay them a visit and present your query.

The sheriff stuff will usually be cooperative and will not have a problem sharing information on fugitive and wanted people as they understand that working together with the community will help them solve crimes faster while keeping innocent people safe.

Taking your inquiry to the court

Walker County warrants are issued by the court, so court records can assist you in your search.

We suggest turning to the Clerk of Courts. Their website's homepage provides a link to an online criminal search tool through which you can access their electronic database of  misdemeanor and felony records including outstanding warrants.

To conduct your search, you will be asked to give one or more of the following: the subject's name and alias,  case number and citation and record issuing date.

If this online database has not given you any relevant results, you may contact the Clerk directly at 706-638-1742, send a Fax: 706-638-1779 or visit their office at 103 S Duke Street, LaFayette, Georgia 30728 and request access to their records archive.

You will need to file a formal FOIA request. Be advised, Georgia Open Records Act gives you the right to view official governmental records.

Performing an arrest search

Walker County warrants will tell you if a person is wanted by the police. To find out if that person has ever been arrested, you will have to get access to jail records.

Walker County jail records should be searched at the Sheriff's Detention Division. Use the sheriff's phone number (see above) Ext. 1295 and 1249  to contact them directly. There shouldn't be a problem getting information on a person's prior arrests in the county.

Using the state's online databases

The state law authorities offer two online sources that can provide you with  background check information:

1) The Georgia Felon Search  (powered by the GA Bureau of Investigation) provides online criminal history information on any person in the state. Every search will cost you 15 dollars. You can use this tool for a Walker County warrant search or for a wider check in other counties as well.

2) The GDC maintains an electronic inmate look up tool where you can access Georgia prison records. It will allow you to trace inmates in any of the state's correctional institutions.

How to trace sex offenders and predators

To trace people with a history of sexual violence in the area where you live, go to the GA sex offender registry. It will enable you to run a search based on offender and offense type, name, gender, race and most importantly, specific geographic location (county, city, street and ZIP code). You can even define the distance in miles from your address to look for sex offenders and predators.
